#TrumpNotWelcome: Europe, To The Streets!
US President Donald Trump starts his first international trip since taking office on Saturday, 20 May.
He’ll be visiting Saudia Arabia, where it’s expected he’ll cement an arms deal worth some $100 billion (and also tweet with Saudi youth — what could go wrong?) Then he goes to Israel to meet with both Israeli and Palestinian leaders, Rome (where he’ll meet Pope Francis), Brussels (where he’ll address NATO leaders at a conference) and Sicily for the G7 summit.
We stand in solidarity with our allies in the International Resistance Network — in Tel Aviv, in Rome, in Brussels — as they get ready to say #TrumpNotWelcome with demonstrations in the streets and Twitter storms online.
Here’s a preview of what’s to come, and how you can help the #resistance!
How can you take part?
First, if you happen to be in any of these cities on the following dates, hit the streets! And share the information with friends you know in these cities — the more voices, the better Trump will hear that he is NOT welcome in Europe.
Second, take part in a VIRTUAL PROTEST online. Using the hashtags #UnitedWeStand and #TrumpNotWelcome, share messages and images on social media — don’t forget to tag @realDonaldTrump and @POTUS — from Monday to Wednesday, while Trump is in Europe.
More ideas and suggestions here. See you on the streets or online!
On Monday, 22 May from 19:00 – 21:00, Pantsuit Nation Israel and other allies will demonstrate outside the US Embassy in Tel Aviv (Tayelet side).
From their call to action: “We need to show [Trump] that not everyone in Israel loves him. Let’s shock them with some facts. There are thousands of us who oppose him, the policies of his administration, and the disgrace that he has brought to the American presidency. Come, bring your friends and family. Please share far and wide.”
On Tuesday, 23 May from 19:30 to 21:30, our allies with Women’s March Rome and Resistance Events Italy among others will gather at Piazza Bologna in Rome to protest Trump’s visit.
From their call to action: US President Donald Trump will be in Rome to visit Pope Francis on May 23-24. US Citizens, Italians and all global citizens are asked to come together to make some noise. We must show the world that we do not condone the hypocrisy, the lies, the dismantling of our democratic institutions and rights, and the self-serving politics that 45 represents. Let’s stand up for #immigrantrights! Let’s stand up for #science and #climatechangeresearch! Let’s stand up for #healthcare! Let’s stand up for #womensrights! Let’s stand up for a #freepress! Let’s stand up for a #democracy that takes care of its weakest and most needy people!
On Wednesday, 24 May from 17:00 to 22:00, our allies in Belgium will gather in front of the Gare Bruxelles Nord / Station Brussel-Noord to protest Trump’s participation in the NATO summit in Brussels.
As we just tweeted to the Orange-in-Chief, this demonstration — with thousands of people expected — will probably be larger than his inauguration.
From their call to action: Donald Trump is visiting Belgium for a NATO summit. This protest march is directed against Trump and his billionaire cabinet . This is a march for peace and against military adventures, for the preservation of our planet and the environment, for the respect for human rights of all humans, for the struggle against sexism, racism and discrimination.
