After #HAYIR: What’s Next for Turkey?
Turkey: Where now in the fight for democracy?
On 24 April, one week after the Turkish referendum, Erkin Erdogan, the co-speaker of HDP-HDK Berlin-Brandenburg, will address the monthly meeting of Die LINKE Berlin Internationals about the results and what Turkish citizens and the world can expect from Erdogan’s government in the future.
On 16 April, voters in Turkey voted in a referendum to determine whether their government will change to a complete presidential system, in which current President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will gain far-reaching powers in all areas of government.
The Coalition Berlin unconditionally supports a free, democratic Turkey, and thus supports the Turkish “No” campaign, or in Turkish “Hayir.” We encourage people to vote NO in the referendum!
As of 17 April, unofficial results showed that Erdogan’s “Yes” campaign had prevailed, albeit by a slim margin. Some international press on the results, and what Turkish citizens — and the world — might expect now from a newly empowered administration.
