Hope you had a nice first wintry weekend with loads of cosy blankets, hot beverages and a working heating. Icy temperatures can be so much fun! If you have the funds to make them so. Not everyone is so lucky to be able to afford the most insulating jacket or the thickest boots to enjoy below zero, especially if you’re in a situation that doesn’t allow you to work or face obstacles you’re currently not able to remove. And I assume most of you reading this have one or three winter items to spare at home, maybe you’re even currently thinking about where to donate that skiing jacket you’ll never use. For the fifth time, I’ll be collecting winter warmers to donate to people in need. This year, it’s happening on December 16th at Markthalle Neun‘s Breakfast Market. And yes, I’ve got some fabulous rewards for your effort.
Just like last year, all your donations will go to Kreuzberg hilft, a tremendous local organisation of volunteers coordinating activities and projects benefiting refugees and other people in need. It’s a small but very mighty organisation committed to political work, exhibitions, and a very needed clothing store. Btw, they’re always looking for volunteers working the clothing store regularly, get in touch if you want to help out!
I’ve extended the time frame in which you can donate – we’ll be collecting your stuffs at Markthalle Neun’s breakfast market from 10:00 to 16:00. This year, the lottery will happen the next day and winners will be announced on this blog, so no need to stay for all these great prizes.
To make sure we only collect the stuff that’s really needed, here’s the wish-list we compiled with Kreuzberg Hilft:
# New or used (but washed & intact) winter coats and jackets for men, women, and children – no wool or fur though!
# New or used, but intact, winter boots and shoes for men, women, and children.
# Tents, camping mats and sleeping bags
Sadly we won’t be able to accept any other donations and will have to be strict. Anything else would create more work to store, and sort, clean, wash, and repair. If you have more to donate, check what is needed at Stadtmission’s Kältehilfe.
To make you even more eager to roam your closets I assembled an impressive list of sponsors for our donation lottery. And winning is so easy: For each donated item you’ll receive one lottery ticket (and two for tents, sleeping mats and bags), so the more pieces you donate, the more tickets and thus chances to win you’ll receive! For the minimalists among you, whose closets are already cleaned out, don’t worry – you can also buy lottery tickets for 10 Euros each and support the cause through this monetary donation, which will go entirely to Kreuzberg Hilft as well.
Here’re this year’s prizes all together worth over 1500 Euro to get excited:
Two 50 Euro vouchers for Commonground (can also be used at Silo Coffee) – a 100 Euro voucher for the sustainably produced goodies at Folkdays – a dinner for 2 at Gazzo Pizza (including bottomless buffalo soft serve!) – a 100 Euro voucher for super hip concept store Hallesches Haus – a brunch for four at Hallmann & Klee – a brunch for four at Isla Coffee Berlin – two 50 Euro vouchers for Kanaan – a dinner for two at Karloff – another dinner for two at Kin Dee – and one more dinner for two at Lode & Stijn – a box of delicious red wine from maitre philippe – a 50 Euro voucher for cocktail haven Mr. Susan – the official Okay shirt, a bag of beans from Koppi and a 30 Euro brunch voucher for Okay Café – 50 Euro, 100 Euro and 150 Euro for luxe second hand The Good Store – and finally a package filled with all the goodies from Markthalle Neun (cheese, coffee, wine, salami etc). And probably more!
