What was the Colorful Revolution that took place in 2016 in Macedonia? How is this still relevant and having an effect on current politics in the region? What prior events led to these large-scale protests? What can be learned from this movement for contemporary political activism?
Elena Gagovska, Macedonian student and activist who lives and studies here in Berlin, will attempt to answer these questions in this monthly meeting of Die Linke Berlin Intertnationals.
Elena (and her friends and family) participated in many of the protests in this movement, as well as some of the crucial events in the lead up to the Colorful Revolution such as May 5th, 2015 when the first series of demonstrations against the clientelist state and the VMRO-DPMNE led government began.
For some background information here is a 2017 article by Elena on the days that followed nationalist forces storming the parliament and assaulting key opposition leaders,
Also, Elena’s most recent article on the perceptions of Eastern Europe by Western Europeans, and the economic consequences of that.
